I really hate to bad mouth anyone but I have wasted at least 80 hours since jul 30,when they FORCED a horrible "upgrade" on their customers. Since then,I have wasted so much time installing, tweaking settings, uninstalling it. DO NOT BUY THIS ONE!! It used 100% of your resources, you cant get on the internet, you cant open email. NOTHING!! I am a longtime customer and have just given up with almost a year of active subscriptions with Mcafee and went to another security suite instead. I am SO UPSET!! Save your money and time, try something else before Mcafee. Trust me, you'll be happier without the mess they forced down my throat. They can have my money if they want it hat bad. I'll consider a lesson learned.

Do not, I repeat do not buy this product. After months of trying to get it to work I am giving up. I am now looking elsewhere. Just go to McAfee site and go to their forum to see all the trouble everyone is having. Their moderators will not tell you but I did get them to kinda admit what the problem is, I posted the following generic statement and asked if this sums it up and no one would answer me:
McAfee will not let us tell users how to switch back to 10. They also will not allow us to allow it to be posted here.

It can be done, but McAfee does not admit any culpability in disabling millions of computers across the U.S. by unleashing 11 before it was ready.

If this post is deleted, I will take that as apparently you weren't allowed to do that either. I would have e-mailed this to you, but you dont' have an email address

I have used McAfee VirusScan for several years. My previous version was 6 months out of date and there was not an upgrade available. I had been using ZoneAlarm firewall for years along with McAfee with no problem. I upgraded to VirusScan Plus even though I didn't need or want the Plus. It seemed to install OK and recognized that I had ZoneAlarm as my firewall; it took along time to load when you wanted to modify the configuration and configuring it not to pester you when you turned things off was not very straight forward. My boot up time went way up to about 5-6 minutes, and periodically my machine would slow down to a creep. I mean creep as in 30 seconds to move a window from point A to point B. McAfee would also crash regularly. I had upgraded ZoneAlarm, switched to IE 7 and gotten a satellite dish for my internet connection within the same week. I suspect that McAfee was conflicting with something else. I uninstalled and reinstalled the other new software and with McAfee installed my machine ran miserably, no matter what else I did. McAfee had 7 or 8 Processes running all the time, it used a huge percentage of CPU time, and memory all the time. I finally gave up and bought ZoneAlarms Virus package and my machine is running well. Maybe there was something else I could have done to get it to run well but I feel I should not have to jump through hoops just to get the product to work. I just called about my refund I they were good about it, but I will check my credit card to confirm it is processed. It was only after I ran into these issues that I started looking at online line reviews of the product. I found many others with these issues. Amazon reviews had this product at 1 star until they purged the reviews. Even now the reviews are poor but there are only 4 of them listed, last weekend there were many more than that.

I ditto everything acurban said with a couple of additions. I also spent 40-60 hours trying to get this thing to run. Every time I powere off PC when I turned it back on.. McAfee all Virus Scan, Firewall, Spyware, Site advisor, etc.. said problems occured. Try to fix said to reload software. Does nothing... so you try to remove program through control panel but wont let you.. freezes up.. try again.. and again... finally try to go into files (do search and delete) I am novice at this stuff. Wont let you delete system files. Finally got hold of a chat technician who sent me a program that deleted Mcafee from PC so I could reload software... but here is the kicker... he said my problem was that I had Internet Explorer 7.0 intstalled... there 2007 doesnt support that version.. gave me instructions in how to go in and remove it... and go down to IE version 6... only problem is that when you get ready to remove IE 7.2 it says are you sure?? you loaded all the following programs with using IE 7.2 and by downgrading to IE Version 6 good chance they wont work and you will have to reload them.... no fricking way. I got the free AVG..like others I got a 8 months left on first purchase of Mcafee virus scan.. and 11 months left on VS Plus 2007 (was cheaper buying whole bundle then paying for firewall and spyware addition) Anyway I guess I am just out the money.. because a Virus Scan business that keep up with IE changes with update patches scares the heck out of me. Hope this helps.

Ok I'll start off with the specs of my system. It's a laptop running a 1.5ghz pentium m, 1.2gb of ram, and windows xp professional. I was previously running mcafee's antivirus 10 and firewall 7. It ran remarkably well, it was also easy on the system resources. Well I figured hey since it worked well VirusScan Plus 2007 would probably be even better. Bad idea. The installation was ok, it removed my previously installed software without any major hassle. However, once installed and the machine was rebooted, I opened mcafee's security center. It took ages to load, not to mention it caused my system to run extremely slow, and once it finally loaded, the user interface was very poorly designed. While the security center was loaded, the software then began to update itself...this basically brought everything I was doing on my laptop to a stand still. I'm sorry mcafee, I used to swear by your software, but I've got to give you the boot.

I had a very old version of McAfee and recently decided to upgrade. I bought this product, which was my first mistake. My second mistake was installing it.

It will slow your computer down to a crawl. You can't turn your computer on without it scanning this, downloading that, etc. I realize it's probably just doing it's job, but the software is so bloated and slows everything down so much, that you can't do anything else when it's operating.

Don't buy it if you don't want you computer to be taken over. Buy it if you have an hour or so each day where you can do something else while McAfree "protects" you from viruses and other junk that will slow your computer down and wreck havoc (kind of like what this product will do).

McAfee has a 30 day refund, which I will definately be using.

Feeling that an industry front-runner would have all the kinks worked out I bought and installed McAfee's 2007 Total Protection Suite. My brand new Dell 420 1.2 GHz Core-Duo with 1.5 GB of RAM was brought to it's knees and set off on a slow crawl. The WIFI internet access was much more difficult to connect to and I had to reboot frequently. After uninstalling through Windows XP there were still large portions of the program left on my machine. I had to go to www.mcafee.com and download the "McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe)" and run this to remove the final vestiges of the product. Don't waste your time. A program like this should be elegant, easy to use and functional. It was none of these.

After using McAfee AV for years, I have now removed it from my system after this latest "upgrade". My system slowed to a crawl, something I used to see with Norton and now McAfee has caught up.

There is no way to turn this off. Unbelieveable.

I couldn't even do a warm boot with it installed.

There is nothing to recommend this product. Avoid it unless you like having to deal with total frustration.

Their support site is a joke. There are less than 10 FAQs listed. No way to contact Tech Support. Their "Virtual Technician" is their answer. Another program loaded and run that makes sure every option is selected. Thanks. I really needed that.

This is so pathetic and frustrating. Now what do I use. I just want Viruses caught, not Big Brother taking over control of my computer.

I've been using McAfee for quite some time now and I have been very pleased with this product until they recently did their facelift.

All of a sudden now my PC takes longer to boot up (and it's an old system to begin with) and my webpages take forever to load. Even my brother, who has a new laptop, notices the slowness in performance.

When I check the processes that are running on my PC it shows that McAfee is at 40,000KB + on my Mem Usage. That's nuts. And I've noticed tha their support has really gone south since this whole cosmetic look thing happened.

I'm planning on canceling my subscription with McAfee or just let my subscription expire and go with another virus provide.
