I have always used a 2 megapixel digital camera so far, and it always shot horrible images, and had no features what so ever. With this camera at 7.1 megapixels shots come out very clear, and the features are awesome. The video quality is phenominal for a digital camera.

Trust me on this one people, if you are looking for a GREAT digital camera to put in your pocket and go somewhers with, this is the one for you.

Go play with it at Best Buy or Circuit City I guarentee you will fall in love with it.

I have been doing research on point and shoot cameras for over 3 months now and thought this was going to be the one. I wanted a simple, affordable camera that did well not only in day but in evening and night time light.
This camera is very user friendly and is very affordable but takes horribly blurry pictures in the twilight/night lighting. The camera does fine in auto mode, but when switched into the 'twilight' mode the pictures are so blurry and are worse than my Nikon Coolpix 4.2 megapixel camera!
The only way to take a picture with this camera is in auto mode so there is no point in looking at what other shooting features it has.
It does have stability control, however everytime I tried to take picture in a mode other than auto, a warning signalcame on with a 'high vibration' warning, so I don't see the benefit of the stability control.
Overall, this camera takes much worse and much more blurry pictures than my three year old 4.2 mp camera I already have. It is a very nice design, easy to use,and good deal but not if you want pictures in any other type of setting besides full lighting! Very very disappointed and will be going back!

Even with a tripod this camera shoots blurry photos. Indoors the colors comeout with a yellow tint even with the flash. Redeye function doesnt work at all. Forget about trying to zoom.... you will end up only with a solid blurr.

This is a really great camera, small and compact with easy to use menu system and controls. I bought mine for $229.00 and with the face recognition feature, steady shot and red eye that actually works I am lovong this camera. I am upgrading from a previous Sony Cyber-shot 4mp, which is still a great camera but I love the larger view screen and pink color and my history with Sony has been all good so I trust them for cameras and camcorders. I highly recommend this camera for anyone who wants a compact, point and shot digital camera and you can't go past the movie mode where you can shot short videos.

The worst camera I have ever come across will never purchase a Sony product again..I just purchased a Canon and it is so great! I agree with all the negatives of this camera that others posted, since I had the same exact problems with my camera

I bought the DSC-W50 (a predecessor to the W80) for my wife just over a year ago. We travel every year and so she wanted a reliable compact camera that would last.

We figured that Sony was a good bet. We were wrong. During a trip to Mexico the camera stopped working; one day it turned off (with the lens still extended) and never turned back on. It will cost over $100 to have it repaired.

    You must be joking.

After researching the problem, I found that not only were there dozens of complaints about the W50 (and W80) but that this issue extended to many, many other Sony models that use the same technology. There are hundreds of irate customers out there with Sony cameras that have stopped working, and most typically just months after the 1-year warranty period has expired.

    Inform yourself:

    http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/digital-cameras/sony-cybershot-dscw5_product-reviews.html

All the complaints are the same: Won't turn on; Lens doesn't open/close; Won't take pictures.

We now have a $240 Sony brick.

    Trust me, buy a Canon.

I saw the review and votes for this product and thought it is a good buy...but after owning it i am very unsatisfied with what i have bought...its does not deserve to be an average digital camera...its like a 3 or so megapixel lens hiding in a 7.2 megapixel camera with a stylish desing...

Really like the camera except for lack of date stamping which is VERY important to me...wouldn't recommend this camera if this is major point for a buyer.

In my opinion this is a pricey camera, pricey because the memory stick is quite expensive, and it is proprietary. It takes some excellent photos in certain situations, however, reds are difficult and not quite accurate. Indoor photos are not sharp, and for portrait shooting there is too much red eye, even with the red eye feature "on". The anti-blur is not very effective. I compared the anti-blur to one of the lower priced HP cameras, and the HP image stabilizer worked better. Because I find the red eye problem very irritating, I gave it a 6 rating
