Sony came out with a true maverick with its Cyber-shot DSC-W80. As an old camera buff (Canon fan), I decided to purchase my first digital camera. The DSC-W80 is packed with an incredible amount of advanced tech. features allowing me to take pix under almost any lighting condition. I especially like the crisp manual settings and concise instrux which I always find confirmed in clear English on the LCD screen before I shoot. This just for peace of mind, great! This is a camera designed for the discriminating and demanding pro as well as for the person who prefers simple auto settings for ease of operation, and who just wants to have a camera to take excellent pix under almost any lighting condition. There are plenty of advanced tech. features (not overdone either) at an incredibly low price. No problem either if bright sunlight affects the LCD negatively: you can always use the built-in standard camera view finder. Besides, this camera is equipped with a top-notch Vario-Tessar lens from the world renowned Carl Zeiss people.
Bravissimo Sony, you've got yourself a true winner!

Got the camera 2 month ago took about 500 shots, most of them on a trip to Peru- Great photos. All the day photos came in sharp and with accurate color- some of
the night shots came in blurry- best setting for night shots is ISO. We also took some videos at night- they came in amazingly good this is as good a movie cam. as a still cam. The big surprise for me was that I did no need to recharge the battery during the whole vacation! The camera is build solid and the navigation is easy and intuitive.- Loved the choice reel display on the screen. Size is small, just as small as they get(some cameras out there may be 1/8" thinner) faults? nothing major- need to set night shots corectly also camera is not as slick as the Canon 600 or 800 but I'll take sturdy over slick anytime!.
