It pains me to give a big red 3 to the XPS 630. I love the fact that Dell has entered the mainstream gaming market and thank God that they are keeping XP as an OS option. However, I must protest what I see as plain and simple price gouging. Go to the Dell website and look at the first two XPS 630 configurations. They are identical except for the OS. If you order the XP version, you pay $130 more.

I can't believe that they are charging a $130 premium for the last generation OS. Simply unacceptable pricing.

I ordered the XPS 630 over two months ago and i'm still waiting. And I was pretty impressed by the review CNet gave.

I know I've waited to long already and should have canceled, but I'm at the point now that I just have to see how long it takes.

If I ever get it I will update this review. To date though Dell support nad customer service has been useless.

This system has potential however it is missing advertised features and has multiple hardware/software issues that have not been addressed by Dell. I would wait to purchase this system until Dell has addressed the problems outlined on the Dell User Forums and at http://www.my630i.com

After spending numerous hours on the phone with "North American based" tech support (when did the Philippines become part of N.America?), issues with the graphics card/hard drive/motherboard still not resolved. When you complain about lack of responsiveness you are shunted to "Customer Care" (also based in the N.American province of the Philippines). The customer care representative will tell you that there is nothing they can do since it is a technical issue. You will be hung up on several times and spend most of your time waiting for the phone tech to go through the notes of your case before anything happens. Then, in most instances, new issues will develop as a result of the advice given by the tech. When you call the corporate office you will be shunted back to technical support or you will speak to a "supervisor" who will tell you not to be angry (all the while realizing that you weren't angry when the process began) right before he hangs up on you.

Do yourself a favor and don't succumb to the "XPS experience." While the "XPS experience" won the focus group accolades, a more applicable catch phrase would be "Dell hell."

    The old adage, buyer beware!

I was initially very pleased with my new Dell XPS 630 system. I have enjoyed many hours of gaming, especially with Crysis.

I've never had to go inside a new computer and make immediate hardware changes because my hearing was threatened! In other words, the Fan/LED Lights Problem happened to me where your front case fans go to 100% RPMs because you happened to want to adjust your case LED lights, which you're allowed to do with the supplied software.

Obviously the software is very buggy and is probably culpable in making the I/O board malfunction and hence the front case fans go to 100% RPMs.

There is a lengthy discussion going on at the Dell Support Forum, of which I'm a party.

In short, I had given Dell a 9/10, but now I have to give them a 5/10 because of this Fan/LED Lights Problem.

    Caveat Emptor!

This is going to be a fantastic system (if I ever get it). One of the other reviewers on here waited 2 months to no avail. What ever happened to 6 day build times and 3-5 day shipping? :(

Will change this review when (if) I get my product.

Got the PC and VERY satisfied. Quad core all the way. Currently installing Crysis while downloading my Burning Crusade client. Amazing machine.

    WELL worth the wait.

This is an amazing system for the price. I verified with Dell myself that overclocking and upgrading will NOT void the warranty. They simply request that you return it to defaults before sending it in. It is truly an enthusiast rig. I was shopping around other places for a while until I saw the recent ad for the XPS 630. I normally build my systems but the support you get with this purchase is better than dealing with multiple warranties from a pieced together system, and at this price you aren't saving much money for the hassle you would be having.

I ordered my Dell system on the internet on April 8th, it arrived on April 17th, so for me, shipping was fast, and I didn't experience the Huge wait that other reviewers are talking about. I did purchase one of the advertised specials though, so maybe that helped. Its fast, I opted for Vista instead of XP, its pretty stable, and I havn't noticed a huge performance bite. My only real complaint is the advertised customizable color changing lights, and it didn't come with the software installed, I had to search through the dell support site and DL it. Aside from that, good construction quality and its really quiet compared to my old alienware.

I had written a previous positive review, but after having this computer for a little over 3 months and recently downloading an urgent "Update" from dell that caused my case fans to run at 100% and my case LEDs to fail. After deal with dell's terrible customer support I can on longer recommend any buy a Dell 630i. On top of those malefunctions, there are additional features that Dell has advertised as being on this computer that are not available. A list of problems and fales advertisings can be viewed at www.my630i.com as well as other websites. I would NOT buy this computer.

In the short 3 months of ownership I have had problems arise in my 630i. First would be features that Dell has advertised that simply arn't available on the system. More importantly would be the Poor Reliability, Technical Support, and Customer service. Recently after I installed an "Urgent" update from the Dell support site. My case fans immediatly went to 100% speed, and my case lights went out. 2x120mm Fans running at 100% makes ALOT of noise, it sounds like a vaccum cleaner running next to my desk. The hours I havn't spent with Dell tech support talking to somebody in India has been less than thrilling and I have been told that it is a software issue and they are working to fix it "soon" I'm sorry, that just doesn't work for me. I cannot recommend a purchase of a Dell 630i, and would take my previous 7 review, down to a 3. You can see a list of these and other problems at www.my630i.com

Dell LIED and mislead it's customers about MANY so called "features" of this "top of the line" Dell P.C.

1.)LIED about 16 lane PCIe slot. Only 8 available. Motherboard MODIFIED by DELL to PREVENT FUTURE COMPATABLIITY.

2.) LIED, about LightFX 2.0. It NEVER EXISTED.

3.) LIES still about the Hard Drive Light perpetually blinking.

4.)LIES about the FANS NOT WORKING RIGHT.

    5.)LIES, LIES, LIES.
