I was very reluctant to buy this system for a few reasons. The main concern was it has a horrible library of games so far and its been 2 years already. The second reason was my girlfriend is going to kill me when she finds out but that's not too bad.

On the other hand, the idiots at Sony in a sense forced me to buy it. My original intention was to wait this holiday season for the confirmed 160GB edition system. That was until I called Sony to ask if this new system will be backwards compatible. Their answer in short, "no". The reason being Sony was losing millions, if not billions, of dollars. That is the result of of people buying the system just for its blu-ray capabilities and PS2 playback. On top of that, the fact that the PS3 has blu-ray is a luxury Sony is paying hefty for.

And to think, I payed $550 for the system to play 2 games that haven't even come out yet; God of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5. Sony fans have been patient and we expect Sony to deliver.

This is not a console anymore its a lot closer to the PC, so mouse & keyboard implementation should already be made 100% for all FPS games with no stupid limitation if and when the put the option in the game.

For me this is a major drawback that prevents the PS3 to have a 10/10 (I know this is not sony's fault but the game developers), but otherwise I am extremely pleased.

This is one fantastic device by itself, much more so with the Dual Shock 3 controller and Metal Gear Solid 4 thrown in for the same price. Blu ray video playback is simply stunning, with audio to match. The built web browser is too cool, wi-fi works great, and hi def gaming is soooo sweet. This device has lived up to it's reputation and exceeded my expectations.

Metal Gear Solid 4 really makes this system shine. The graphics, sound, and story are phenomenal. No wonder this game got a 10/10 at Gamespy.

As for the system itself, initial setup was easy; however, actually using the system was altogether another story. First, trying to control DVD via the game controller is a pain and took a while to figure out. The buttons are sensitive so if you drop the remote onto a table, youre likely to find that it engages a button causing random movie functions like chapter forward, rewind, or main menu. It is easy to hit the wrong button as well and find yourself in the wrong scene. To top it off, the controllers are Bluetooth, so theres no way you can use your Universal Remote (even the Harmony) without an adapter. Adapters cost about much as the off-the-shelf Sony Blu-Ray remote&so you might be best just taking the sales persons advice and buying the PS3 remote control ($19.99 at Target).

Connecting to the wireless home network took about 2 hours due to poor documentation and a lack of support from Sony and Linksys. A search through newsgroups showed a HUGE knowledge deficiency with networking the Playstation-3 and many people had similar problems. However, as a network engineer, I was able to figure out the DNS problem and get the thing connected. For those without the networking know-how, this could be a serious problem because it impacts both wired and wireless connections.

Using the manual settings didnt work&I had to use the automatic detection and input my wireless routers IP address (192.168.1.1) into the DHCP hostname field. If you skip this step, youll still get an IP, but the DNS will timeout&even if you have the correct DNS settings.

In any case, despite the networking and controller challenges, the system is still fantastic. It integrates with Vista Media Center well and streams audio/video from the PC almost flawlessly, even across a wireless connection. You can go out and detect any Media Center PCs on the network that have been shared and browse media as if you were on the PC itself. This is an easy way to get music/video from your PC to the rest of the house without buying Media Center Extenders or adding iPods around the house (I use the multi-zone function of my Yamaha receiver to push audio to the speakers in the other rooms).

80GB still seems a bit light on the HD space in the age when 1TB drives are coming on the market and specially when Blu-Ray games require 5-10GB of space; but this is a small complaint as my collection of active games is small. On a whole, this is an excellent system for the price.

I have had the PS3 for 6 months now. I did have one problem with my first PS3, when I left it on running with a video game in, I think that it caused the drive to break. However, Sony has a one year warranty, and were very helpful with the exchange. The new PS3 I received comes with the new game Metal Gear Solid 4...and the graphics are amazing. I am into good quality picture, and that was the main reason for purchasing the PS3 in the first place. The games graphics, and the Blu-Ray movies are clear and impressive. They won't disappoint even the most picky. Of course, it also depends on which HDTV you are using with it too. The new software upgrades come with the Dolby True HD, and DTS-HD Master. I am into audio as well, and this player performs great in both movies and video games. I also like the picture slide show available on the PS3. It turns my living room into a large slide show- with brilliant color and clarity. You can download your songs onto a SD and attach to your PS3 and it easily transfers any pictures or music for quick access.

Right now I am trying to figure out how you use this device to watch movies. I realize it is great for gaming, but all the CNet reviews lead me to believe watching movies would be enjoyable. I have to turn up my audio to compensate/drown out the noise of the fan, something my wife will scoff at. As it stands right now I don't think I would get more than 30 minutes into a movie before she would tell me to return the device, and I hate it but I would have to agree. The fan just is so loud, it goes through each fan speed until it is full blast and I updated the software before trying to watch anything. I was only watching a movie, what will it do when I load a game later tonight? Will update with more experience if I keep it longer than 48 hours. I think I am most dissapointed with CNet for writing so many reviews making me think the device would be quiet enough to enjoy watching a movie.
