I have owned the Xbox 360 in the past, and I even considered buying it again before finally deciding to stick with my plans I have had since the first announcing at E3. I waited two nights for this amazing machine, and it was well worth it. My first reactions to the Xbox 360 when I first got it were of disapointment. The frame issues on the Xbox 360 were not next gen to me. But the Playstation 3 does not have the such issues. Being able to play a game of high level graphics in HD and with a whopping 60 frames really is out of this world. The 20Gb is what I had to settle for, but reading the manual I came across one of the most important features of the PS3. Its upgradeability. I can put my own hard drive in. As long as it is a 2.5 SATA it will work, and it will NOT void the warranty. Although the 20GB is lacking the WiFi integration, the WiFi adaptor will be available very soon. As for the multimedia card slots, any memory card reader will work via the USB ports located on the front. A couple interesting things to note, Linux is fully supported on this computer entertainment device. I can only imagine the potential to turn this into a PVR! Also lets not forget those ROMS and emulators people! If you have a chance to get your hands on a 20GB, get it! It is well worth it and IS just as powerful.
One more feature. I cannot believe I left it out! The Blu-Ray is the future. HD movie viewing will be the norm, and from what I have seen, I am very glad. The difference between regular DVD and Blu-Ray, or HD-DVD for that matter, is really night and day. Lets not forget the Blu-Ray technology comes with the 20GB PS3 too! -

This has been a great console to play for the past few weeks. Resistance- Fall of Man has been an incredibly detailed shooter to play and requires much expertise to play well. I have had more fun transferring mp3's from my computer and playing them thru my home stereo. Simply use a USB removable card drive and plug it right into the Playstation 3. The sound is excellent. I installed a Buffalo AirStation Ethernet Converter (model WLI-TX4-G54HP)and it works perfectly. So I got wi-fi working for an additional $60. If you have the choice go for the 60 gig model since it has built-in wi-fi but since I only had the opportunity to get the 20 gig model I went for it and I'm glad I did. The photo viewer is awesome as well- I love the portrait mode and the panning/scanning it does with the pictures. Truly a great piece of technology (but is it worth $500??). After owning it for a few weeks I would say YES! -

Well myself i have always been a PS fan, even though the hype of Xbox even back in 2001 upon first release was considered much more of a monster gaming machine, i just could never get into xbox mainly because all the games on it were already on PC. Heres the comparison now between the 2 monster systems 360 and PS3.
1.The PS3 is totally backwards compatible, every single PS2 game and a few PS games have worked just fine. Xbox 360 on the other hand must have a start up disc for old games and as i've seen and heard some old xbox games you'll NEVER be able to play on it, meaning you'll just have to keep the old one or be SOL.
2.The graphics on Xbox 360 are nothing to snicker at, but i must admit the PS3s DPI and higher resolution give it more clarity and a much sharper image for the gamer, much like a high end PC gaming system. Plus the PS3 has 3 times the processing power of the Xbox and has had NO lag what so ever.
3.With all the negative reviews regarding the PS3 i still wasnt listening, and as quiet as the system is i dont have to, the 360 sounds like a large vacuum cleaner by comparison and the PS3 barely even sounds like anything but a soft hum. Also the bulky 360 adapter is a pain in the royal A#@ to contend with when unplugging and pluggin in.
4. The PS3 runs "kinda" hot but not nearly as hot as a large Gaming PC which i also own, and both i've kept on for hours without having to call the fire department to distinquish the inferno neither one have ever caused, yet another misconception.
5.The PS3 axis controller is pretty slick maybe a little TO sensitive but at least it really really works, i'd rather have that then trying to pound on the buttons to get it to work. The 360 wireless controller is nowhere near as sensitive and doesnt even give you the option.
6.The 20 gig is a steal, the price is not OVERpriced, especially when you think of the FUTURE of gaming and HD-DVD and Blueray movies, which yes 360 does not have. Also it can be used as a computer without any extra cost, and lots of free demos unlike the 360 xbox live garbage. The only silly thing i think is that sony has the 20 gig and 60 gig which there really is no need for. Your paying 100 extra dollars just for Wi-Fi, and not the card readers, because on the 20 gig all you have to do is take a jump drive with pictures plus it into one of the 4 USB ports and your rolling.
So in closing the PS3 is a better more expensive deal for the future, if people would have patience and not worry about how many games are out now they would realize this. As they said it takes at least 1 to 2 years to get games that take advantage of the full capabitlies of the new systems. So while Xbox is a "good" system PS3 just has more of everything, variety of games for the future and from the past, where as 360 is mostly shoot, kill, RPG, and first person shooters. My other recommendation is stay away from Wii or just get it for Mario Galaxy, i won't say much only Nintendo took a step back when they should be innovating great graphics AND great gameplay, if you don't believe me about the horrendous graphics just look at 80% or the gamespot game reviews, the highest is 7 on even the good. As for now PS3 is just the overall best, and yes i know because i own it and love it and wouldnt trade it for any other system. -

This console is the lower end of the two, but a great deal. 20gb is plenty for 99% of gamers, the only other difference is the wifi, which I don't need because my house is wired and wireless. I have had no problems with my console and I've had it a month now. The games are great even if the selection is not. Need for Speed looks and plays fantastic as does Call of Duty 3. I would recommend this console any day of the week. -

A definitive interesting platform with media center potential. This fits multiple family niches:
- Centralized multimedia storage (PSP only for remote storage)
- Web browser and chat communication.
- Potentail for ubiquitous content access to PSP.
That stated,
- There is be a PHY layer neutral method of connecting a PSP to the PS3. If you have a PS3 on an existing wireline network with a 802.11 b/g cloud, the PSP should be able to associate through the existing network and access PS3 content.
- The content should stream through LocationFree in the future. Once again, PHY independent. Just with IP.
- LocationFree uses an external proxy to help with direction back to a home encoder. This should also happen with the PS3.
- This has DVR potential through Sony's online service, but should also have a QAM tuner and OCAP to finish off as a Set-Top box to live in the Microsoft space. I'm surprised that I have not heard any discussion on OCAP and the OCAP stack for the DVR. MicroSoft gets it.
- There needs to be a clear upgrade path from the 20GB unit to have WiFi access for PSP integration.
- There needs to be clear integration into existing PCs and other appliances (iPod) for integrated media management.
- The 1080i downscale problem definitely poses a problem for those who do not have 720p or 1080p HD units.
All in all, an interesting addition to the house. A foundation. -

SONY launched it's PS3 late 2006. It had been waited for long since the release though. With fans eager to get in on the action. It had also gone through some major re designs until they finally got their final product. The Playstation 3 sold out everywhere when it was released, and people waited weeks outside in the cold just to get their hands on it. The 20GB is the low end model, but it doesn't hold back it has everything the 60GB has except a opening in the front which has spots for memorycards and other cool things. Also it consists of Wi-Fi allowing players to play online without hooking up the Ethernet cable to their modem or router. There is basically only a hundred dollar difference between the two consoles. First lets talk about what you will receive inside the box of the Playstation 3.
UNBOXING -
The PS3 comes in a heavy black box with a plastic handle on the top. Allowing easy carryout. When you first open the box, you will see 2 white flaps on the left and on the right. They have nice drawn diagrams of the PS3. Open those flaps and you will see on the left or right hand side a cardboard box, it is small and thin. Inside you will find packets with 2 USB wires for your SIXAXIS controller for recharging. Also there is an Ethernet cable for going online, and there is your SIXAXIS wireless PS3 controller, which is lighter than the previous ones. The instruction manual, and other important things are located on the bottom of the box in a bag, so keep those in a safe place. Then you might find a blueray movie called Taledega Knights, starring Will Farrell as Ricky Bobby. Then it comes time for the PS3. It is placed right in the middle to the side. There are 2 cardboard thick pieces on each side of the PS3. With thin foamy wrapping. Open the foamy wrapping, to find the PS3. That's basically it.
Exterior of the BOX -
On the back there is a bunch of games out for the PS3, and a bunch of writing on the back, and what ever is inside the box. In the front it has the PS3 picture, and in spiderman font it says PLAYSTATION 3. It also tells you which model you have (60gb or 20gb, in this case 20gb).
Moving on to the system -
THE PLAYSTATION 3 has a user friendly dash, and it allows you to find everything you are looking for, With different sections for everything. It is arranged the same way as the PS3 dash. Compared to the XBOX 360, the XBOX 360 is a bit more user friendly. The graphics however are really nice. Although there are no killer titles as of right now. So experiencing the graphics on the system is kind of hard. It does however have a better graphics card installed.
Harddrive (HDD)- The Playstation 3 is consisted of a laptop hard drive. Which is easily detatchable, not as easy as the XBOX 360. It has to be unscrewed first, but you can take a huge laptop drive, and fit it in there.
That's basically my short review of the 20gb PS3. Now "Play Beyond" -

I had purchased this system when the PS3 was originally released. I was supposed to get a 60 gig system but the store was out and gave me store credit for the difference. I was amazed playing this system for the first time.
The graphics are solid, colorful, full of depth. Many people gripe that this system is too expensive. If you are looking for a gaming system that you know will come to its full potential, this would be it. Think back about the ps2. Even in the last few years, developers are creating games with the full potential of the ps2 now that they know how to manipulate it. Owners of the ps3 will not be disappointed.
The sound is wonderful on this system as well as the hd (depending on the game of course). Starting out, not many games were HD, but now in 2008 we are getting more and more. This system also offers the BEST blu-ray player on the market. The picture is so crystal clear, its sick!
My only complaints about this system would be the hard drive size and the wireless internet. If you are smart and own this system, you have upgraded hard drive size and found a way around the internet problem like I have. Where there is a will, there is a way! -
