I am more than satisfied with this camera's picture quality, many features and design. The video quality is wanting but I was not interesting in purchasing a video camera. Whatever the quality of the video, it is an added bonus to such an already sleekly designed, practical, and first-rate camera for the novice photographer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't count on Panasonic to fix it if it is broken, April 16, 2008

    (REAL NAME)

I had a Panasonic Lumix camera for about 2 years. Then the zoom lever started to get stuck in the "W" position (doesn't return to the "neutral" position), which makes it now impossible to accurately zoom. Send the camera to the Panasonic service center for repair. After 1 month (!), I get letter from the service center asking about my credit card information - ignoring the fact that I included letter with the camera describing the failure and including my credit card infoo for charging the repair. So it took them 1 month to ask me for information they already have. Fast forward another month, for those of you that paid attention - 2 months! have now passed since they got the camera. They send the camera back with a packing sheet, listing my exact failure description and the remark: tested all functions, no failure found! In other words they did NOTHING, charge US$112.00 to my credit card for this and the zoom lever is still stuck. Every idiot can notice this if trying to operate the zoom. So great
camera as long as it works. If it breaks after 2 years because of a lousy zoom lever design, you've got a ~$500 paper weight. Don't waste another $112 like I did trying to get Panasonic to fix it.

I bought this camera and took it to St. John in the US Virgin Islands. Beautiful landscape & macro shots.

Widescreen is great for viewing, but sometimes I wish it had a viewer for certain shots. Manual focus with the joystick is a pain in rear unless you've got plenty of time to shoot; not practical in quick "point & shoot" situations.

There are more options than I think most point & shooters would ever use. Hardcore photographers would probably prefer an SLR with those options and just use a cheaper point & shoot for those types of situations.

If you want the options and quality of an SLR in a point & shoot camera; this is a good choice. However, I think that Panasonic could have made some of the manual options a little more user friendly; nobody likes to scroll through menus to try and set up a shot.

camera break down after 2 months. sent for repair and now they are "waitting for parts". Been waitting for the past 2 months and expect to wait more.

representative said will call back but never call back. have to call few times before someone answer the phone.

Definitely the best camera I've ever had!
The pictures are (in my opinion) far ahead of sufficient - brilliant!
The manual and half automatic options gives a lot of room to play around!
Even the movies are quite good!

The only disadvantage is the lack of an hotshoe and the small flash...

If you're looking for a camera with lots of bells and whisteles, but don't want a large SLR, then this is the camera for you!

It gives the enthusiast lots of flexibility in shooting range with total manual control. Three different aspect ratios are offered. The Leica lens is super sharp and you can get close to your subject within 2".

Drawbacks include lack of a viewfinder, proprietary USB cable (not widely available),and a limited pop-up flash.

If you can live with these drawbacks, this camera can take some great shots. Not for the beginning photographer!
