Norton 360 allowed a piece of adware get by today (Apr 10, 2007). The PC tuneup feature is surprisingly mediocre and doesn't clean up the registry.

I own and operate a computer repair store and have seen about two dozen machines with Norton 360 installed (all by users). Without exception, they have ALL complained about their machine being S-L-O-W-E-R! (remember the Taxi show when the question was asked: "what does a yellow light mean?) The minimum system requirements are way to simplistic and should be rated more truthfully. Lest anyone should get the wrong idea, I have used Norton Products for almost 15 years and that is what I have on the machine I am writting this with. My suggestion to Symantec: Up the system requirements to a 2 Ghz or above Processor and a minimum of 1 GB memory. Anything less will be agonizingly slow.

    Purchased download...failed, corrupted.
Tried support, they finally suggested outright disk purchase....bought disk.
    Installed disk....crashed computer,(ran a startup / shutdown loop).
Norton telephone support helped me stop this, but only after 2 hours of waiting for a hookup to India and more fooling around.
    Then tried 360 live update....error 5.
Tried to fix error 5....more errors, tried to fix those.....more errors.
I have invested hours and hours trying to make this product work with errored downloads and silly phone calls.
This product will NOT update with any Norton fixes. Finally downloaded Norton eraser.
Removed all of it and have requested my money back.

I have been a Symantec/Norton fan for probably 10 years. Over the past couple of years it would appear their quality and product stability has begun to slip. Then 360 arrived. Though it was slightly more, it appeared to answer all my needs. I purchased it and downloaded it. The install took the better part of an hour. Once installed, the performance of my PC significantly deteriorated. (I have a 2.4 GHz HP). Then the warnings started. First "Engine fail" would flash on the bar at the top of the IE toolbar. Then I was constantly being pestered about scans failing. I contacted support. Their best answer was to delete my temp files. I checked documentation. Again, the best answer was to delete temp files. oh PUUHHHLEEZE!!! I've been a geek and a CTO for over a decade. I can say without question, that if one of my gang had written software of this quality, and supported it with the truly pathetic level of responsiveness displayed to date by Symantec, I would fire them. This software has obviously been released before it was ready for market. I'm getting a refund....

I use Norton 360 more than 3 months now. I am very happy with the software. It works well on my PC. I have had no problems others have mentioned. Norton 360 installed quickly and easily. It works well and I do not need to do anything to it. I like the simple design - it is very easy to use. The automatic fixing feature is very good. It will tuneup my computer and do other things when I am not using the computer. This makes work very easy and does not slow my computer's performance.

Re Up your licensces for NIS 2007 and Systemworks.
You will be much happier with the greater control and power those programs have.

I have been using Symantec products for many years, and this product clearly is not the same caliber as Symantec's other products. Norton 360 has been a led-down because it really affects the performance of my computer. First, internet surfing is very slow. Webpages are taking an unusually long time to load. Also, whenever I try to close a window, it takes at least 15 seconds to close, where as before it would close almost immediately.

I am terribly disappointed with this product. I think both Symantec and CNET dropped the ball here - Symantec for allowing such a product to go to marekt, and CNET for giving this product such rave reviews.

After having this product for a few weeks now, I can honestly say that I wasted my money. Internet Explorer is considerably slower than it was and likes to lock up regularly. There have also been alot more items finding their way to the registry than before. To top it all off, thier customer service will make you go postal. It took quite a bit of time to search through their website just to find any contact information and when I did, it really didn't solve anything. There has to be something much better out there.

I hate having to write this review but Norton 360 just won't run on my Alienware. I have used Symantec products for the last 10 years. I chose the Norton 360 after my Internet Security 2006 license was about to expire. I would have simply purchased an extension of my 2006 license but that was not an option. The install and setup took about 2 hours each but each install ultimately ended with a message and only option that Norton 360 must be uninstalled and reinstalled. On my last install I tried turning off all but the internet security options in case one of the other aspects of the program was causing the need for Norton 360 to force a reinstall but no luck. I was hoping a patch might be available soon to fix this problem but I am uncomfortable waiting without anti-virus protection.

Norton 360 has an executable titled CCSRVHST.EXE. This service continually locks up the cpu to the point that you have to log into windows services and stop the SYMANTEC EVENT MANGER service to unlock the processor.

This is novice issue for a reputable software developer to let slip out of beta.

I'm disappointed with Symantec's support giving the same old "please uninstall and re-install" answer they always give.

The issue was never resolved except to uninstall Norton and find another product.

    No excuse for this.

I've got a message for Symantec....FIX THE SOFTWARE BEFORE YOU SELL IT TO THE PUBLIC!

PS: I can't believe that CNET would give this product an Editors Pick award. They obiously did not do complete testing.
My Norton 360 worked great for a couple of days too...then it went to hell. I suggest CNET do another, LONGER testing period with this product.
