If you spend a lot of time on the road, an ultraportable is probably your ideal laptop: small and lightweight, with just enough power to get the job done. Sure, you'll make a few sacrifices--ultraportable screens are usually 12 inches or smaller, and most feature scaled-down keyboards that can be uncomfortable for long stretches of typing. But those are minor quibbles when you're talking about schlepping your laptop from home to office (or from New York to Albuquerque). And as technology improves, ultraportables keep getting better: some models now offer integrated CD or DVD drives and more comfortable keyboards. With that, we present the latest ultraportable laptops we've reviewed.

Review summary Though it's expensive, the Sony VAIO VGN-TX670P delivers a great combination of business and entertainment features, long battery life, and unparalleled connectivity in an incredibly ultraportable package. Though the Toshiba Libretto U100 has the enviable combination of a small size and a powerful processor, in the final analysis, it's just too diminutive for many to use. Though it's a tad expensive, the Toshiba Portege R200 is a well-designed ultraportable with enough speed and battery life for business travelers. The well-designed, ultraportable Averatec 1000 has neither the endless battery life nor the high price of the competition. An inexpensive business ultraportable, the TravelMate TM3002WTCi offers an appealing design, plus lots of speed and battery life, but it lacks some security features and support niceties.
